Arequipa, Jul. 23 (ANDINA). The city of Arequipa will open its 470th founding anniversary celebrations with a regional tourist parade through the Historical Center including over 1,000 dancers from its eight provinces.
According to Aron Maldonado, vice governor of Arequipa, this event aims to rescue, revalue and spread the typical dances from the unknown regions of the southern department, even among many local people.
Artists will arrive from the provinces of La Union, Condesuyos, Castilla, Caylloma, Caraveli, Islay, Camana and Arequipa.
“This activity will kick off in August, Arequipa’s anniversary month, in which different artistic and cultural events will be carried out,” said Maldonado.
The Third Regional Tourist Parade will start at 08:00 hours (13:00 GTM) at the España square.
Arequipa, located 1,011km (633.8 miles) south of Lima, lies in the Andes mountains, at an altitude of 2,380 meters (7,800 feet) above sea level.
